The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also known outside Turkey as the Blue Mosque, is one of the most famous and important mosques in Istanbul, Turkey. The mosque is located in Sultanahmet Square and is opposite the Hagia Sophia Museum. Built by Sultan Ahmed I, the mosque is famous for its distinctive architecture as it is one of the most important and largest mosques in the Islamic world.
